This airfield is one of the
largest US military bases in Afghanistan, with a dual-runway militarised airport next to the ancient city of Bagram. The base is run by a US Army division but largely owned by the US Air Force's 455th Expeditionary Wing. The Parwan detention facility at Bagram holds around 3,000 prisoners.
