The Iron Gate is a famous gorge on the Danube River. Lying between Romania in the north and Serbia in the south, it forms part of the boundary between these two countries. With the riverbed rocks and the associated rapids, the gorge valley is infamous passage for shipping. There were a few plans drafted to make the passage navigable, however the effect was not significant. Thus the Iron Gate remains as an obstacle of note.
