Richard had the amazing experience of volunteering at the Panda Research Base in Sichuan Province. He was able to see how pandas are taken care of and what their needs are as an endangered species. Richard also spent time as a translator at the research base and was featured along with other volunteers on China's national television.

One of the coolest things Richard was able to do "was to camp at an altitude of 5190 meters (17027 feet) in Tibet next to Namtso Lake. While in Tibet, I conducted my own research project on Tibet's education system and how the Chinese Communist Party controls what is taught to the children in the autonomous region."

Richard has also served as the president of the Pre-Vet Club, vice president of Phi Mu Alpha and the vice president of the Asian Pacific Student Association.
