The family of the Sacheverells is very ancient. The visitation of 1509 derives it from Patrick Sacheverell, Lord of Hopwell, in the time of Edward I. Thoroton, however (Thoroton's Nottinghamshire, page 50), commences the pedigree five generations earlier, with John Sacheverell, who married a coheiress of Fitz-Ereald.
