Dave is a member of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame, and was chosen as the National Sportswriter of the Year in 1997 by the same organization. He is also in the U.S. Basketball Writers Hall of Fame, and was the 2012 winner of the Dick Schaap Award for Outstanding Journalism.
By his count, Dave has covered 39 Super Bowls, 44 World Series, 75 major golf championships, 43 Kentucky Derbys, three NBA finals, and eight Olympic Games.
