The Highways Agency will help keep traffic moving over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend by suspending or completing almost 90 percent of its roadworks.Around 275 miles of works will be completed before the double bank holiday and a further 43 miles will be lifted between Friday 1 June and Wednesday 6 June, providing extra lane space for holiday traffic. This map shows the 17 locations where roadworks need to remain in place, mostly for safety reasons. The 318 miles of roadworks cleared for the bank holiday are shown on a separate map http://bit.ly/RWj12C

Mixture of contraflow and narrow lanes with 50mph temporary speed limit. 22 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Speed limit needs to stay in place because safety equipment has had to be disabled during the roadworks. Temporary reinstatement of this safety equipment would take much longer than the holiday.
Temporary 7.5 tonne weight restriction. 12.4 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Weight restriction is a safety precaution.
50mph temporary speed limit. 8.2 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Some hard shoulder closures will be lifted, but where there is a temporary safety barrier the temporary speed limit needs to remain for safety reasons.
40mph temporary speed limit. 2.45 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Some works next to the carriageway will not be fully completed. Lane closures will be lifted but the temporary speed limit needs to remain for safety reasons.
Reduced to a single narrow lane in each direction with 50mph speed limit. 6.8 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Restrictions need to stay for safety because there are open excavations and a temporary safety barrier.
Narrow lanes and 50mph temporary speed limit on anti-clockwise carriageway only. 1.3 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: All lanes now clear on clockwise carriageway but completion has been held up on the opposite side because of heavy rain at a critical time, this means there are open excavations so lane and speed restrictions need to stay in place for safety reasons.
Reduced to a single narrow lane in each direction with 50mph speed limit. 1.5 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Restrictions needed to protect the scaffolding structure which is essential to the repair works.
Contraflow and 40mph speed limit. 3 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Contraflow has to stay in place because the eastbound viaduct is being demolished and reconstructed.
Narrow lanes and 50mph temporary speed limit. 16 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Restrictions need to stay for safety because there are open excavations close to traffic lanes.
50mph temporary speed limit. 0.5 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Speed limit needed for stretch where safety fence is defective.
Narrow lanes and 30mph temporary speed limit. 1.2 miles of roadworks with moderate delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Restrictions needed for safety because there are open excavations close to traffic lanes.
Narrow lanes and 30mph temporary speed limit. 1.25 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Instability of road edge means traffic has had to be moved away from edge into narrow lanes.
Reduced to a single narrow lane in each direction with 40mph speed limit. 0.8 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Restrictions needed to protect the scaffolding structure which is essential to the repair works.
Narrow lanes with 30mph temporary speed limit and right-turn restrictions. 0.8 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Work needs to continue in order to be finished in time for Olympic Torch Relay passing through
Narrow lanes and 30mph temporary speed limit. 0.5 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Restrictions need to stay for safety because there are open excavations close to traffic lanes.
40mph temporary speed limit and right-turn restriction. 2.5 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Restrictions are needed because road markings have been removed and to keep traffic safely away from open excavations.
Lane closure and 30mph temporary speed limit. 0.5 miles of roadworks with nil to slight delays expected. Reason roadworks cannot be lifted for Jubilee bank holiday: Although one lane closure will be lifted for the holiday, other restrictions need to remain for safety due to ongoing utilities and construction works with open excavation adjacent to the carriageway. Stopping all Oldham Council's works for the holiday could result in the school access not being completed in time for the new September term.
