Sent by email from Jonathan Cooper: I live in Hardendale, near Shap, Cumbria, north-west England.  By midnight my observations were wiped out by the cloud, although you could see them occasionally through distant holes.  But from about 11pm to 12am I managed to photograph the faint green of the aurora and the occasional top of a curtain.  In one pic (the panoramic one attached) I’m really pleased that you can see a bright meteor close to the milky way, as well as the green glow of the aurora close to light pollution of Penrith.  If only the clouds hadn’t moved in – but at least I got a good hour of observations.  I’m looking forward to what else is in store during this solar cycle.  Photo details: Pentax K-r, iso 12880, f5, 10-15s exposures, 22-50mm lens.  Location: Hardendale, near Shap, Cumbria, NW England  Date/Time: 11pm-12am 22/01/2012
