Más sobre Curtin Detention Centre14: Inverbrackie
When Inverbrackie was first opened as an immigration detention facility we were informed that it was to meet the needs of families and children. The Children's Commissioners and Guardians Group have stated that little attention had been paid to the health care needs of children within the centre and that the environment is dark and not stimulating. Dr Jon Jureidini, head of child psychiatry at the Women's and Children's Hospital, Adelaide has said the children he's treating were the 'saddest kids I've seen'. Dr Jureidini is also treating a suicidal teenager from the centre. At least five children have been born at the centre with the mothers and newborn babies being taken straight back to detention after any essential medical treatment. 373 children are held in mainland Alternative Places of Detention (APODs) like Inverbrackie.
