Work in the Plaza Garden to update it and make it user friendly. This garden is maintained by the Student Garden Club. The vegetables grown in the garden are open for students and community members to pick. The requested work in the garden includes, but is not limited to: installation of rain barrels, installation of a composting unit, signage, fill in gravel beds and paint/remove graffiti from the existing planting beds.

There will be 5-6 stations lead by the Perkins Eastman team with approximately 30 bags. We will count all bags for grand total. Display and announce total collection in school students. The students will rotate from station to station on 30 minute entryway intervals. The stations will include the following: 1. Software Introduction: Sketchup - Introduce the students to basic design software and discuss how the software can illustrate the benefits of passive solar design through shadowing features. 2. Worm Bin Compost - Hands-on lesson in urban composting. Participate in construction of a
worm bin. 3. Garden - Students will divide into smaller groups to clean, and prepare
a designated area of campus property for a garden. 4. Bike Tune Up / Bike Rack -
Educate the students how to perform routine maintenance on their bikes and the

This project will consist of landscaping work, primarily composed of creating prairie gardens in approximately five locations around the perimeter of the school. Work will also include landscape cleanup in these areas as well as mulching and revitalizing existing plant beds. If funding or donations are available- signage stating this is a native and adaptive area and/or signage regarding plant types would be welcome. AVID students will also be participating in the project to earn service hours. This project is a start for what will potentially be a much bigger green schools project next year.
