An early start sees us off along a fairly flat ridge on the edge of the escarpment with fantastic rock formations and the aloes in bloom. 7km sees the start of a steep single track descent (300m in 2km) into the valley. Suspension bridges, fallen trees make for an interesting run. Then it is up the other side and 380m accent in 3.3km. It is very hard to run this section, The vie from the top is worth the pain though. Don't rest to long, it is only a kilometer to the Mac Mac pools. A little further down the hill brings you to the Mac Mac falls. If you have not seen then take the time to have a look. Crossing the R532 again we head off into the pine forests with an undulating route to the President Burgher overnight hut and the end of a truly great South African trail.
