AAF elements used civilian structures as cover as well as 12 x fighting positions in the draws to the NE. HEDGEROW (HR) elements (AH-64s) were called in to support the engagement. AAF were reportedly attempting to breach the wire into the COP; CHOSEN elements requested that HR elements engage 30 meters east of their location IVO 42S XD 74100 80500 with 30mm runs. HR conducted multiple strafing runs 100-200 meters east, IVO COP Kahler. DUSTOFF elements arrived at the COP to pick-up the casualties from the engagement area, when HEDGEROW elements observed multiple muzzle flashes toward the DUSTOFF aircraft originating from 42S XD 7397 8143; HEDGEROW elements engaged the AAF location with organic weapons. HEDGEROW elements conducted FARP operations at Camp Blessing and returned to the engagement area and then were briefed that AAF elements had moved closer to CHOSEN elements. CHOSEN 6 requested that HR elements engage 10 meters from friendly units in the area IVO 42S XD 7400 8040. HR elements conducted a northbound engagement on AAF positions; multiple targets were called in 200 meters of the OP IVO 42S XD 742 805. At 0430Z, a battle handover was conducted with TF SHADOW HARDLUCK (HL) elements (AH-64s). HEDGEROW elements departed for ABAD then RTB to JAF. Total rounds expended: 945 x rounds .30mm, 82 x HE rockets, 4 x Flechettes, 11 x WP rockets, 3 x Hellfire missiles. TF OUT FRONT ASSESSMENT: During the engagement there was an estimated 15 x EKIA, at least 40 x EWIA. Current Coalition losses include: 14 x US WIA, 4 x ANA WIA, and 9 x US KIA from the engagement at COP Kahler. Current reporting indicates that AAF from villages in Dara Noor District are moving to reinforce AAF elements in Wanat Village. AAF are re-supplying and restructuring for additional attacks reportedly scheduled for this evening. Reporting has indicated reinforcements of 100 x AAF from surrounding areas are prepared to conduct future attacks. SIGINT intercepts have placed 2 x AAF Aid Stations north of Wanat, and that both have reached capacity to treat wounded. AAF will continue to conduct surveillance on COP Kahler in attempts to discern Coalition vulnerabilities prior to a follow on attack. TF DESTINY ASSESSMENT: Over the last 30 x days there have been 6 x SAFIREs within 10NM (all of which were categorized as Minor, with the exception of 1 x Major Hit approximately 8.5NM SE). This SAFIRE is assessed as a Minor, target of opportunity engagement, as the area was taking heavy enemy fire at the time of the casualty extraction. The large scale attack has indicated the increasing enemy presence in this region, which may increase the air threat. Recent HUMINT reporting has also indicated the presence of DShKs throughout the Waygal Valley in the surrounding area. Insurgent forces will continue to coordinate attacks in this region in an attempt to obtain control of the area. "

"REFRENCE TO ISAF INCIDENT # 07-0736 RC(W) REPORTED US FORCES WERE CONDUCTING A RESUPPLY CONVOY TO FOB BAKWA ON A EAST TO WEST ROUTE THROUGH OPEN DESERT. US FORCES USED THIS ROUTE PREVIOUSLY, WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE CONVOY REACHED A LOCATION WHERE A CIVILIAN TRUCK WAS IN THE ROAD, UNABLE TO MOVE UNDER ITS OWN POWER. THE CONVOY HALTED, IN AN EFFORT MOVE THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD. THE US CONVOY BEGAN RECEIVING IDF AND DF AS MEMBERS OF THE CONVOY WERE PREPARING TO MOVE THE DISABLED CIVILIAN TRUCK. THE DIRECT FIRE WAS CONFIRMED TO BE ORIGINATING FROM TWO OF FOUR BUILDINGS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 400 METERS TO THE LEFT FRONT OF THE CONVOY (SOUTH-WEST). THE CONVOY APPLIED SUPPRESSIVE FIRE ON THE TWO BUILDINGS AND REQUESTED CAS (CLOSE AIR SUPPORT), ENABLING THE CONVOY TO PUSH THROUGH THE "KILL ZONE" AND BREAK CONTACT. ALL VEHICLES CLEARED THE AREA, EXCEPT TWO GUN TRUCKS MAINTAINING SECURITY AND VISIBILITY OF THE HOUSES. THE CAS RADIOED THE CONVOY, REQUESTING THE HOUSES BE MARKED FOR POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION. US FORCES DEPLOYED SMOKE TO MARK THE FAR WEST BUILDING, WHICH THE CAS WAS ABLE TO POSITIVELY IDENTIFY AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. CAS DEPLOYED GBU-12 (500LB) ORDNANCE ON THE MARKED BUILDING. THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE DAMAGE NOTICED BY MEMBERS OF THE CONVOY. A FEW MINUTES LATER, FOUR TO EIGHT MEN, DRESSED IN BLACK WITH WHITE SASHES, WERE OBSERVED RUNNING FROM THE BUILDING, SOUTH ABOUT 400 METERS TO ANOTHER BUILDING. THE CONVOY CONTINUED WEST TOWARD FOB BAKWA, LINKING WITH THE QRF. PERSONNEL IN THE REAR VEHICLE OF THE CONVOY INDICATED THEY WERE STILL BEING ENGAGED, INEFFECTIVELY, FROM THE ORIGINAL BUILDINGS. REPORTS DO NOT INDICATE OBSERVING ANY CIVILIANS IN VICINITY OF THE TARGET OR BUILDINGS. THE RESPONDING QRF CONTINUED TO THE TARGET LOCATION TO CLEAR ACF AND ASSESS DAMAGE. THE QRF DISCOVERED THE CIVILIAN CAUALTIES/FATALITIES. THE CURRENT RESULTING BDA IS EIGHT (8) LNS KILLED, TO INCLUDE ONE (1) FEMALE AND SEVEN (7) CHILDREN AS WELL AS TWO WOUNDED LN ADULT MALES. THERE IS NOTHING FURTHER AT THIS TIME. "
