4: Strong Arm Robbery

On December 31, 2012, at approximately 11: 21 p.m., officers from the Northern District were in the area of Ballman Avenue when an officer saw a group of male juveniles running down Ballman Avenue onto Hillside Terrace in Brooklyn Park. While running, one of the subjects dropped a bag at the corner. The officer lost sight of the juveniles as they scattered through yards.

When the officer returned to the area of Ballman Avenue, he was flagged down by a 39-year-old male from Brooklyn Park, who indicated that he had just been robbed by that same group of fleeing juveniles while he was walking on Ballman Avenue. The victim reported being followed by the group with several subjects eventually assaulting him and taking a bag of beer that he was carrying. The group then fled the area. The bag of beer was later recovered from the corner of Ballman Avenue and Hillside Terrace.

Suspects: About eight juvenile males, wearing dark clothing

5: Serious Accident

On January 1, 2013, at approximately 12:03 a.m., members of the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle in the area of Route 10 North and I-695 West in Glen Burnie.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2002 Volkswagen Passat that left the roadway and struck the bridge supports for the overpass of I-695. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics arrived on scene and began to render aid to the driver, who sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma for treatment.

The Traffic Safety Section was notified and assumed primary investigative responsibility for the crash. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling north on Route 10 approaching the interchange with I-695, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and began to rotate as it left the roadway and struck a light pole in the area of the passenger door. The vehicle then continued up an embankment, striking a bridge support in the area of passenger side rear corner.

As a result of that impact, the vehicle rotated in a clockwise direction and struck another bridge support with the front of the vehicle before ultimately coming to rest on the north side of the roadway. Preliminarily, there is evidence to suggest that speed and impairment were possible contributing factors in this crash. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with further information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573.
