0: Upper Highlands

Safe, suburban neighborhood in Fall River.

1: Lower Highlands

This is a historic section of Fall River. Sort of a street car style higher density suburban area (minus the streetcar now, of course). It's quite safe and walkable.

2: Flint Village

This area is one of the more dangerous in Fall River. There are a number of housing projects and many run down neighborhoods. It's not unsafe to drive through or even walk through during the day (Billy's Cafe, one of my favorite Dive Bars is on Bedford), but I wouldn't live there at night.

3: Downtown/Whaling District

This area is the centerpiece of the city. It's an attractive, compact and walkable downtown. Towards the waterfront you have the Whaling District National Historic Park. You also have a number of museums, shops, restaurants and galleries. Rentals here will be more expensive than the rest of the city but that's because it's a nice area.

4: West End/ Historic District

This area has a number of rentals. It's very safe and has good proximity to downtown, buttonwood park and UMass Dartmouth.

5: United Front Homes

United Front Homes is perhaps the city's most notorious housing project. It's home to one of the city's worst gangs ("United Front"). While the project is currently undergoing a massive overhaul, I'd avoid the area. Just a few blocks away is fine.

6: Clasky Common

The stretch along Pleasant and County Streets near Clasky Common is pleasant as well. Good location.

7: Weld Square

Notorious for drugs and gang activity.

8: Hicks-Logan area

This area is not so much "dangerous" as it is run down. It's home to fish plants and beat up warehouses and homes. The Lofts at Wamsutta Place have been a great addition to the neighborhood, but unless you're living there, I'd avoid the area all together.

9: North End

While Acushnet Avenue is home to some really cool ethnic eateries and bars, the area just off of Acushnet can be a bit rough around the edges. North Front Street (home to another gang) is notoriously for violence.

10: Far North End

You'll probably see many rentals advertised as "Far North NB" and they generally fall within this shaded area. It's safe and quiet for the most part.

11: South End

This area can be a little rough too.

12: Shape 13

This area at the south of the peninsula is actually quite attractive (and suburban). The down side is that the commute can be lengthy to almost anywhere outside of the neighborhood and the smell of the treatment plant can be strong on certain days.

13: Sunset Hill

Sunset Hill is one of the worst projects in the city. I'd avoid the neighborhood around it as well.
