var55_Paragraph1_Text: Women are not permitted to walk alone in Fatima's conservative Beja culture. She does so anyway as an act of civil disobedience. Fatima identifies herself as an "Islamist capitalist." She started two business, managed by her brothers, and works as a grassroots political organizer and teacher of women's rights to other Beja women in Port Sudan.
