Descripción del sitio

Juan Oswaldo Aguilar, 19. Shot as many as 10 times July 6 in front of the Townhouse Motel at 432 S.E. Baseline St. in Hillsboro. Armando Chavez Ortiz, 18, of Hillsboro told police he shot Aguilar, also of Hillsboro, with a .22-caliber rifle about 2 a.m. after the men argued about a girlfriend. Chavez told investigators he fired the shots after Aguilar threatened him with a knife. Investigators did not find a knife at the scene. Chavez and Aguilar were unemployed and were associated with the 13th Street gang, police said. Chavez told jurors he shot his friend in self-defense after Aguilar lunged at him with screwdrivers in a methamphetamine-fueled rage. He was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Later, a judge added three more years for series of crimes committed by Chavez in 2001 and 2002, including second-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse. Authorities said Chavez was living in the United States illegally and will be deported to Mexico after serving the 13 years.
