This refugee camp housed some 20,000 Palestinian refugees who fled the Arab-Israeli war in 1948. In 1976, Christian Maronite forces laid siege to the area. The siege went on for awhile, but eventually the Christian forces took over and forcibly removed Muslims to West Beirut.
