On October 3, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe was found sem-conscious in the gutter on the north side of Lombard Street, between Exeter and High.
A carriage was called and Poe was taken to Church Home and Hospital, where he remained for almost four days before dying early on the morning of Oct 7.
