tucked behind 404 and Andy Wahloo is a restaurant which is a far cry from the usual identikit Parisian bistro. *Derrière*, opened by Mourad Mazouz, offers a kind of « dining at home » experience. Although most of us go out in order to feel like we’re not eating at home, and dinner at Derrière is more
like visiting an eccentric kleptomaniac’s house. You might be seated in the main room with its kitchen table, comfy sofas and even a ping pong table which offers amusement between courses, even more so when the ball lands in someone’s *joue de boeuf bourguignon*. Or you could choose to eat in the cosy den, or even the bedroom, perched on the edge of a mattress. The roll top bath used as a handbasin is a nice touch, but the best bit of all is the jumbled mishmash of furniture and odd curios in the hidden smoking room, accessed through a secret door in a mirrored wardrobe… if you can find it,
that is.
