In January 1718, Blackbeard established a headquarters near colonial Bath, North Carolina. The governor of North Carolina, Charles Eden, was supposedly favored pirates because pirates often sold their contraband to local merchants. There were also rumors that Eden was very close to Blackbeard and supposedly a business partner with Blackbeard.
