Welcome to the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s map of African American historic places in the Northeast. The historic sites on this map come from all ten of the region’s states, from Maine to Delaware, and represent a range of historical topics and themes, from slavery in the north to the origins of jazz. This virtual tour will lead you to houses that once served as stops on the Underground Railroad, to one of the oldest African American cemeteries in the United States, and to the center of Portland Maine's 19th century black community, in addition to many others.
