Named the most powerful person in Topeka by the Topeka Capital-Journal in 2000, Howard is the former chairman of the board for the financial services company Security Benefit Group. His innovative leadership helped grow the company's assets from $2 billion to more than $36 billion.
Howard also served as the secretary of the Kansas Department of Administration and the Secretary of Commerce in both Kansas and Illinois.
After graduating from IWU in 1960 with a major in insurance, Howard went on to graduate from the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
