Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary is home to 161 species of birds, both migratory and resident birds. September to March is the best time for bird-watching. Other wildlife such as smooth otter, dusky leaf monkey and long-tailed macaque dwell here as well. You might even spot a ridge-back dolphin while boating here. After dusk, plenty of fireflies will light your way home.

Address: Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary, Jabatan PERHILITAN, Pos Kuala Gula, 34350 Kuala Kurau, Perak

(At the North-South Expressway, turn off at Jawi for the town of Kuala Kurau. Another 30 minutes onwards and you should see the signs for the sanctuary.)
Tel: +605-890 2207

Cost: RM22.50 per head

TIP!   You’d have to fax a letter in advance to Ipoh’s Jabatan PERHILITAN requesting permission to visit. Alternatively, get yourself a reliable tour guide (we recommend those trained by Wetlands International) to settle the paperwork from you.
