In addition to taking courses, Daniel kept very busy during his stay in Japan. He taught English to Japanese adults and children, took piano lessons with an Illinois Wesleyan professor who was also in Japan, visited historic landmarks and participated in Japanese choir, cooking and film-making clubs.
Some of his most memorable experiences include seeing Mt. Fuji, going to Hiroshima to learn about the atomic bomb and the effects it had on the city and citizens and taking a separate trip to Seoul, South Korea.
